Eve Vagg is a native of Jersey City where she began her formal photography study at the age of sixteen while at the Hudson County Vocational School and Parsons School of Design.  After high school she spent the next 4 years at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where she studied with master photographers, Ralph Gibson and Lilo Raymond among others.

Her primary focus during that time was her familiar Jersey City surroundings where her early work explored what would become the changing face of a city.  Her visual vocabulary of industrial landscapes, neighborhoods and still lives continues to this day. Of her current work Eve explains:

“By intentionally using slow shutter speeds, I create images that are ethereal in quality and leave impressions of another world-- the dream world.  As an active dreamer, I often confuse what I’ve experienced in my dreams and those experiences of the waking world.  They leave such an impression.  I believe these images come as close as anything to what I see during my dreams.  The transference-- the unconscious redirection of my dream world into my photographs-- gives me a great deal of satisfaction, resolution and calm.  The outcome is peaceful even if the process leaves me a little lost for concrete understanding.”
